Having a 5 foot monitor hanging on my shoulder at the shows leads to my being asked this, at minimum, 20 times a day. After dealing with various lizards (small and large) and snakes, we have found that the key to keeping them tame is by avoiding feeding live food. Feeding your reptile a live, moving target triggers an aggressive response used to protect themselves or capture their meal. This is why they try to bite when you go to take them out of their enclosure.  To them, they just see a moving target….like their attacker or prey.

Your alternative to live prey is frozen/thawed food. You can easily purchase frozen rats, mice, chicks, bunnies, etc., online, at your local reptile shows, and even at some pet shops.

Of course, feeding frozen/thawed does not solve it all. The 2nd part is  handling your animal daily (or as close to it as possible). I always recommend to people that they can do this when they watch a 30 minute TV show. It’s easy to fit in 30 minutes every day of handling and it will certainly pay off!

Granted, there are some animals that just have a wild nature about them and I tell people it’s just like some humans…no matter what you do, some are just plain ornery :o )

It has been way too long since our last update, however it’s been for good reason! We have found a new farm with much more room for the animals. It’s going to take us a good while to get it how we want it but we hope that it will eventually be visitor-friendly. The next couple months will be taken up by construction of new pens, paddocks, and ponds; moving the animals; and then getting the animals accommodated to their new habitats. We have to try to get all of this done before we find ourselves in the middle of the winter months. It has already started cooling off at night down here so it’s imperative that we put our full focus on the move. Unfortunately, that means we may not be blogging a ton but have no fear, we will be back with pictures of the entire endeavor :) Hope all is well with everyone and their pets!!!

Hello Everyone,

We just wanted to remind you all that the Daytona Reptile Expo is this coming weekend (Aug. 22-23). For those who did not know, we have stopped setting up tables at the Daytona show. If you are unable to attend but are looking for something in particular, you have until Thursday night to get your requests in to us. We are going on behalf of some other customers to pick up certain animals and have found this to be helpful in the past to those who cannot make it. If there is something you would like us to look for, send us your name, contact number(s) that we can reach you at on Saturday AND Sunday between 9-5, and what you are looking for. For those who will be there, we look forward to seeing you!

To Billy, Patty, Bill Sr., Shirley, Skip, and the rest of the Repticon Family:

Greg and I just wanted to say thank you for all of the hard work you put into the Repticon shows. Your promotion of the shows is beyond excellent and your interaction with the vendors is above and beyond the call of duty. You guys are like a second family (our reptile family) to us and we appreciate the way you make us feel at home at your shows. We appreciate everything you do to make the shows not only a success for yourselves but for the vendors who work them. You are truly good people at heart and it shows in everything you do. We are so happy to have met you and just knowing you makes us better people!

This past weekend we had a fantastic time at the return of the Repticon show to the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa. The show was absolutely packed!!! Repticon has been doing an amazing job of getting the word out about their shows and it is certainly paying off. We spent a great deal of time with many new customers educating them on various species of turtles, tortoises, lizards (especially monitors!), frogs/toads, and salamanders. We even had people drive over an hours distance just to come and thank us for helping them at the Orlando Repticon show! It is because of the people that we meet at these shows that we do what we do. You guys make our hard work worth it and we just want to thank you!
